Sam Bell

Sam Bell Date of Birth: Feb 6, 1909

Sam saw the light of day in Burthorpe, County Durham in 1909 and combined working as a coalminer with banging in goals for Burthorpe Institute.

Spotted by Norwich, he enjoyed a productive spell at the Nest before being enticed to Kenilworth Road in April 1934 where he proceeded to net 20 goals in only 30 League starts, forming a devastating partnership up front with Jack Ball.

Naturally, the scouts came flocking and he was sold to Tottenham in March 1935 but a change of manager saw him sidelined there and he went on to Southend until the outbreak of War.

Sam remained in Southend and became manager of Southend Greyhound Stadium. He passed away in Southend in 1982.
