Samuel Davies

Born in Nantwich in 1870, Sam started off playing for local sides before moving to Bury who were making a name for themselves in Lancashire League circles.

As an attacking full-back, Sam was ever present in Bury’s first season in the Football League in 1894-95, a campaign which saw them win the championship of Division Two at the first attempt.

It was coup therefore when a top division player joined the Town in 1896. Virtually ever present in the Town’s own first season in the Football League in 1897-98 it came as a disappointment when he joined an exodus of departing players and opted to sign for Gravesend at the season’s end.

Sam finished his playing career at Nantwich Town and passed away in 1913.
