Stewart Littlewood

Stewart Christopher Littlewood Date of Birth: Jan 7, 1905

Born in Rotherham in 1905, Stewart first came to the fore when he was banging in goals for fun with Matlock Town. The Town lost out to Sheffield Wednesday in January 1925 but got their man six months later after he had failed to break into the Owls first team.

Stewart was made to bide his time in the reserves for a while but the strong and clever centre-forward was introduced into the side in October 1925 following a goal drought, with the stuttering Jimmy Thompson moved out to the wing.

His introduction marked an upswing in form but after six matches, Stewart was badly injured in a training accident and when he was fit could not replace the now prolific Thompson.

Released at the end of the season, Stewart went on to play at a good level for the next ten years, enjoying prolific spells at Oldham and Port Vale along the way.

Stewart passed away in Rotherham in 1977.
