Syd Reid
Syd Reid Date of Birth: Sep 27, 1900 Share "Syd Reid" on FacebookBorn in Cannock, Syd moved to Pentrebach in his youth and was turning out for the local Star side when he was spotted by the Town and brought to Luton in the summer of 1921.
Learning his trade in the reserves, Syd needed to wait until Ernie Simms had left the club before making the centre forward position his own.
Only short, Syd was very quick and could shoot accurately with either foot and over the next six years he proved to be a prolific goalscorer, averaging a goal every other game. A broken knee cap sustained in a home game against Bournemouth in January 1928 sadly ended his first-class career. He later played locally for Luton Amateurs whilst progressing with a long drawn out claim for compensation.
Syd changed his name to Sidney in later life and died on 7th October 1968 at St Mary's Hospital in Luton.
