Taiwo Atieno

Taiwo Opiyo Taiwo Leo Awounda Atieno Date of Birth: Aug 6, 1985

Taiwo signed for Luton initially in March 2010, having come through the youth system at Walsall. The Brixton-born striker arrived at Kenilworth Road after spells in Puerto Rico and the USA. Taiwo couldn’t break into the first team at the end of the 2009-10 season with the Hatters forwards in a rich vein of form, but fared better when re-signing in September of the same year. Despite earning a dubious red card in a defeat at Gateshead, Taiwo would go on to score seven times for Luton in twenty appearances, with all his goals for the Hatters coming at Kenilworth Road.

Most notably, Atieno braces in an FA Cup replay against Corby Town and an FA Trophy match at home to Uxbridge, in addition to scoring in home wins against Bath City, Histon and York City. Despite this record, Atieno couldn’t regularly tie down a starting place and Richard Money decided to release Atieno at the end of his contract in January 2011.

Taiwo subsequently signed for Stevenage, before appearing for Torquay United & Barnet. Since retiring from football, Taiwo moved away from football to be an entrepreneur to work with the Kenyan Premier League as their Commercial Director.
