Ted Duggan

Ted Edward Duggan Date of Birth: Jul 27, 1922

Ted became Luton Town’s first ever groundstaff boy when signing on for the Hatters as a 15 year old in 1938 after being spotted starring for a successful West Ham Schools X1.

Another player who lost seven years to the War, Ted was, however, tipped for England honours once hostilities had ceased but the clever inside-forward suffered a series of injuries, including two cartilage operations on the same knee, and sadly failed to fulfil his great potential.

Transferred to QPR in 1949, Ted played for three years at Loftus Road before subsequent moves to Worcester City and Bedford.

After hanging up his boots Ted was for many years trainer-coach to the Hatters youth side and was instrumental in bringing through the likes of Bruce Rioch and Alan Slough.

Ted was only 60 when he died in 1982.
