Ted Turner
Ted Edward Turner Date of Birth: Mar 28, 1874 Share "Ted Turner" on FacebookBorn in Skerton, Lancaster in 1877, Ted was snapped up by Everton at a young age but could not break into the first team on a regular basis so decided to try his luck at the newly formed Portsmouth club in 1899.
Ted had two spells at Portsmouth as well as turning out for Northampton and Fulham so was quite well known in Southern League circles by the time he ended up at Luton in the summer of 1904.
Known to everyone as ‘Old Hookey’ because he had supposedly perfected the ‘hook shot’, Ted was a completely left-footed full-back who performed reasonably well in a poor Luton side but not well enough to be retained at the season’s end.
Ted did not play professional football after leaving the Town and was last heard of playing for Carlisle Co-Operative.
