Tom Finney

Tom Finney Date of Birth: Nov 6, 1952

A pipefitter by trade and playing part-time for Crusaders in his native Belfast, Tom was quietly signed by Luton manager Harry Haslam over the summer of 1973 and became an instant sensation for the Hatters.

Scoring twice on his full debut against Carlisle in September 1973 he then netted in his next three games but no sooner had his star risen than it started to wane and the following summer he was transferred to Sunderland.

He fared little better at Roker Park but won the first of his Northern Ireland caps while he was there. It was his next move, though, where he found his niche, making over 300 appearances for Cambridge United in ten years at the Abbey.

Tom later worked for Securicor in Cambridge.
