Tom King
Tom King Date of Birth: Jun 29, 1909 Share "Tom King" on FacebookBorn in Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir, near Grantham in 1909, Tom first signed professional forms for Notts County but it was a subsequent move to Bournemouth where he started to attract the scouts due to his strong and clever form at full-back.
An injury to veteran full-back Tom Mackey at a crucial time in the Town’s championship season of 1936-37 led to the club swooping to bring in Tom from under the noses of Everton and he helped the team cross the line to promotion.
Although there were times when Tom lost his place in the side due to the return of Mackey and the form of Tom Smith, by the time War broke out his full-back partnership with Tom Dunsmore was unbreakable.
Injured during a war-time friendly against an Army XI, Tom was forced to hang up his boots and start work at George Kent before taking on the role of Head Groundsman at Kenilworth Road.
On retirement, Tom lived with his sister-in-law in Scarborough and passed away there in 1993.
