Tom Parker

Born at Fenton in the Potteries in 1893, Tom was spotted by Sheffield Wednesday while playing local junior football but did not get a chance at Hillsborough with the Great War getting in the way.

Once hostilities had ceased the quick and powerful wing or centre-half became sought after and the Town beat off the challenge of Huddersfield to sign him in the summer of 1919.

Remaining virtually ever present for two seasons, the second of which he was made captain from a position of ‘stopper’ centre-half, he broke a leg in the opening day win at Norwich in 1922.

After recovering, he could not regain his place in the side and was allowed to leave for Portsmouth in March 1923, helping them to win the championship of Division Three (South) in 1924.

Tom played only one game in the second division with Pompey and finished his playing career at Wrexham.
