Tommy Quinn

Thomas Austin Quinn Date of Birth: Apr 16, 1887

Born in Woolwich in 1887, Tommy had started his football with Foots Cray before signing professional with Fulham but could not cope at Southern League level.

Moving to Gravesend his career clicked into gear and his reputation as a maker and taker of goals as his side won the Spartan League encouraged him back into the professional fold at Luton in the summer of 1909.

Tommy proved a revelation at Kenilworth Road, top scoring in his first season before setting up chances for John Smith and Bert Moody in his second. This led to fellow Southern League side Millwall putting in a ‘considerable’ bid for Tommy and John Smith in March 1911 which was an unprecedented step at the time.

For the first, and certainly not the last, time the supporters accused the Town of being a ‘selling club’ with the directors pleading that they needed the money.

Tommy played for a season and a half at Millwall, without showing his Luton form, before dropping back to finish his career at Northfleet.

Tommy passed away in Plumstead in 1960.
