Tommy Roe

Tommy Roe Date of Birth: Dec 8, 1900

Born in Evenwood, Co Durham in 1900, Tommy first came to the fore with Durham City in the Football League in 1922 where he gained a reputation as a maker and taker of goals.

Snapped up by Tottenham, he was initially placed in their junior team at Northfleet before being handed his debut at White Hart Lane. In two years there, though, he made only seven appearances and moved on to Nottingham Forest in 1927 where he was no more successful.

Coming to Luton in the summer of 1928, Tommy was expected to cover for Andy Rennie and Jimmy Yardley who had scored 46 goals between them the previous season. He did get his chances in 1928-29 and bagged seven goals in 17 appearances but could not win a permanent slot when Rennie and Yardley were both fit.

Turning down a contract at the season’s end he joined Walsall where he got more game time before finishing his League career at Coventry.

Tommy passed away in Durham in 1972.
