Tony Carroll
Tony James Carroll Date of Birth: Oct 31, 1906 Share "Tony Carroll" on FacebookBorn in Glasgow in 1909, Tony was a much travelled winger by the time he arrived at Kenilworth Road in 1938.
Appearances for several clubs in Northern Ireland preceded a successful three years at Leicester where he helped the Foxes to promotion to the top flight.
At Luton he broke his ankle early on but was back to his best as the 1938-39 season drew to a close setting up chances for Hugh Billington from the right wing.
Tony joined the Merchant Navy during the war and was reported lost at sea in March 1944 when his ship went down in the North Atlantic. Miraculously he survived, after being marooned on a makeshift raft and losing four stones in weight before being rescued.
Tony passed away in 1983
