Tony Thorpe

Tony Anthony Thorpe Date of Birth: Apr 10, 1974

A Youth Trainee at his local club Leicester, Tony was picked up by Luton manager David Pleat in 1992 having remembered him from his days at Filbert Street.

He had to bide his time at Kenilworth Road before coming on as substitute during a 6-2 home win over Stoke in November 1993 but hit the headlines when scoring at Premiership Newcastle in the FA Cup two months later.

A natural goalscorer with quick feet, Tony really came to the fore when banging in 28 goals for the Hatters in 1996/97 and it was no real surprise when he moved to Fulham for £800,000 in February 1998. He lasted four months at Craven Cottage before a £1 million move to Bristol City where he was in and out of favour. He enjoyed two loan spells back at Luton before re-signing in 2002 and leaving again in controversial circumstances a year later to join QPR.

Tony subsequently enjoyed a long career while gradually moving down the divisions.
