Said in the local newspaper as a ‘new recruit from a neighbouring village’ he was drafted in to the Town’s United League side just before Christmas 1900 as right-back in a game against Rothwell.

He was picked again the following week, this time at centre-forward, but was not heard of again until the final United League match of that season when the Town went down 8-0 at Rothwell.
