Warren Feeney

Warren Feeney Date of Birth: Jan 17, 1981

Warren started turning heads in his native Belfast when playing for St Andrews, once scoring 54 goals in one season. This drew the attention of Leeds United who signed him as a trainee in 1998, although he never made the first team and joined Bournemouth on loan for the end of the 2000/01 season. Warren impressed at Bournemouth with 4 goals in 3 starts, and upon returning to Leeds he refused to sign a new contract due to their new foreign imports obstructing any pathway he had into the first team. Bournemouth jumped at the opportunity to make the move permanent ahead of the 2001/02 season. He was relatively prolific at Bournemouth, hitting 36 goals in 108 matches at Division 2 level, which convinced Stockport, to part with £50,000 to help stave off relegation from the newly renamed League 1, ahead of the 2004/05 season, Bournemouth commissioned the move due to their perilous financial position at the time. Although Warren had scored 15 goals in 31 league appearances, Stockport were looking unlikely to beat the drop, and then relegation was all but confirmed when Mike Newell snapped Warren up for £150,000 on the 24th March 2005. Newell assumed that, because Warren had been prolific in a relegation threatened League 1 team, he would fit right in at Kenilworth Road.

Warren made a total of 6 appearances for Luton during the remainder of the 2004/05 season, making his debut in a 1-0 home victory over Blackpool. Ahead of the 2005/06 season, Luton’s first back in the second tier in a decade, Warren shared second striker responsibilities with newly signed Rowan Vine, making 29 starts and 13 substitute appearances, but only scoring 6 league goals. However, Rowan Vine was the better foil for Steve Howard, scoring 10 goals in 21 starts. With Steve Howard leaving at the end of the season and Rowan Vine attracting attention and then leaving halfway through the 2006/07 season, Warren became the main striker at Luton Town, unfortunately he could not step up to the vacated positions by Howard or Vine, as well as failing to form a partnership with newly signed Sam Parkin. Warren’s last game for Luton was a 2-0 home loss against Ipswich Town before joining Cardiff City on loan before the conclusion of the season, which ended with Luton Town’s relegation from the Championship.

Following his departure from Luton the Northern Ireland international mostly struggled to find the back of the net. Warren joined Cardiff, before loan moves to; Swansea City, where he was prolific scoring 5 goals in 10 appearances, Dundee United and Sheffield Wednesday. Before leaving Cardiff for permanent moves to Oldham Athletic, Plymouth Argyle, Salisbury City, before moving back to Northern Ireland to finish his playing career with Linfield, where he was player/manager. Warren moved into management fully once hanging up his boots, happily moving around to such teams as; Newport County, Ards Football Club, Futbolen klub Pirin, in Bulgaria, Welling United and Glentoran.
