Wayne Andrews

Wayne Michael Hill Andrews Date of Birth: Nov 25, 1977

Paddington born Wayne, made his first foray into the professional game at Watford, making a mark in the first team, although struggling for regular first team action, due to Watford buying up talent at that time under Elton John and then a serious ankle break. Upon his recovery from injury, he was loaned out to Cambridge and Peterborough over the course of the 1998/99 season being released from his contract upon his return to Watford.

Wayne ventured down the English pyramid into Non League football, spending seasons at St Albans City, Aldershot Town and then Chesham United, before being given another chance in League football at Oldham Athletic, under the watchful eye of Bob Dowie, brother of former Hatter Iain. Although the Latics wanted Wayne to stay, offering him a new contract, he signed a deal at Colchester United ahead of the 2003/04 season, with his performances drew the attention of Premier League Crystal Palace, who were managed by Iain Dowie, who paid a 6 figure fee for his services.

Andrews struggled for minutes at Palace, but capitalised on their relegation, becoming more of a fixture in the starting lineup, although still struggling to find the back of the net. Upon the conclusion of the 2005/06 season, Andrews was released by Palace, signing for Coventry City, where a fractured ankle once again curtailed his playing time, therefore loan moves Sheffield Wednesday, Bristol City, Leeds and Bristol Rovers followed for Wayne to get his fitness and form back.

Upon his release from Coventry after just 10 appearances in 3 seasons, Wayne tried to prove his fitness at Bristol Rovers to earn a contract, but fell short at the trial, after which he was offered a chance at Luton Town on trial as the 2008/09 season was kicking off, with Luton struggling to fill the squad, Mick Harford needing experienced heads to help overturn the 30 point deduction, Andrews ticked the boxes for the Club, signing a short term deal in October 2008, making his debut as a substitute in a 2-1 loss against Accrington Stanley. Wayne would make 9 further appearances in all competitions for Luton Town, failing to hit the back of the net.

After failing to find another professional club, Wayne decided to retire from Football, opting to move into personal training and subsequently strength and conditioning coaching having worked with Wealdstone.
