William Porter

William Porter

Born in Glasgow in 1879, William remained an amateur throughout his playing career which included spells at Hibernian and Third Lanark north of the border – while with the latter he won a single Scottish cap.

Moving to London for work reasons he skippered Fulham to the championship of Southern League Division Two before short stops at London Caledonians, Chelsea and Brighton.

Joining Luton in January 1908 he played four games on the left wing during the remainder of that season including scoring both goals in a 2-1 win at Tottenham.

Retained for a second season he made only one appearance before moving back to London Caledonians and finishing his career with Ilford.
