Willie Havenga

William Stephanus Havenga Date of Birth: Nov 6, 1924

South African born Willie came over to this country to join Birmingham City having been spotted playing for Bremner OB in his home country.

Due to the size of the squad at St Andrews he made only one League start in two years and accepted a move to Luton in May 1950 where he was given more of a chance. In his first season at Kenilworth Road he enjoyed a sixteen game run in the side and netted a hat-trick against Swansea on Boxing Day 1950 but a broken wrist then hindered his progress.

The tiny winger with the fierce shot then moved on to Ipswich and had spells at Kettering, Worcester and Hinckley before returning to South Africa where he passed away in 2008.
