Alan Sheehan

Alan Michael Anthony Sheehan Born: 14th September 1986 From:
  1. Athlone
  2. Leinster
  3. Ireland

Born Athlone, Ireland. Alan began his senior career at Leicester City after being spotted playing for Belvedere. After 23 appearances and 1 goal in 5 years he joined Leeds United but failed to hold down a first team place so was loaned out three times. A season at Swindon Town was followed by three seasons with League One (3rd tier) Notts County.

The most consistent spell of his career saw Alan play 127 times scoring 7 goals in three seasons. A free transfer to Bradford City was not a success and he was loaned out including to Luton Town in January 2016 for the rest of the season.

Alan signed a two year deal in the Summer of 2016 and he had two consistent seasons appearing 41 and 46 times scoring 3 goals in each campaign. Promotion to League One as runners up in the second season saw him named in the PFA Team of the Year and Luton Town’s Player of the Season. Another bonus was that promotion triggered a contract extension. 21 games and one goal in League one was followed by 7 games and one goal in the 2019/20 Championship season. Alan was released in January 2020 and he signed for Lincoln City. Spells followed with Northampton Town and Oldham Athletic. It was with the Latics that he took a coaching role. He retired from the playing side in January 2022.

He returned to Luton as first team coach under Nathan Jones then followed him to Southampton in November 2022. The partnership lasted just 14 games before he was sacked alongside Nathan Jones. Alan was appointed assistant coach at Swansea City in June 2023. A spell as temporary head coach when Michael Duff was sacked then reverted back to assistant coach. However, when Luke Williams was sacked in February 2025, Alan took over again as temporary head coach. A successful period including 5 wins on the trot saw him given a three year contract in April 2025.
