Albert Russell

Albert Edward Russell

Albert was a goalkeeper who had played against the Town for New Brompton (Gillingham) and was signed in November 1895 to replace stand-in John Jack who was really an outfield player.

A competent goalkeeper, Albert kept clean sheets in his first two games but when the Town had the chance to sign the experienced Richard Williams they took it. Albert played one further game, again keeping a clean sheet, to replace the injured Williams but shortly after departed for Woolwich Arsenal where he played but one game – a 6-1 defeat at Burnley in the FA Cup.

Albert then moved on to Dartford.
