Alexander Menzies

Alexander Menzies Date of Birth: Nov 25, 1882

The son of a blacksmith, Alexander was born in Blantyre in 1882 and his form at Hearts, with whom he won the Scottish Cup in 1906 and played for Scotland against England in the same year, encouraged Manchester United to bring him south.

At United, after a bright start in 1906, he began to look less and less like a Scottish International centre-forward and after only 24 appearances in two years was allowed to come to Luton in September 1908.

Although a regular in the side in 1908-09, and forming a reasonable partnership with Bert Moody, he found Southern League defences more organised than those in his homeland and was allowed to move to Dundee at the season’s end.
