Andrew John Blakemore Burgess Date of Birth: Aug 10, 1981

Born Bedford, Andy was released by Luton Town as a youngster but managed to sign as a trainee at Rushden and Diamonds and went on to help them win the Conference title in 2001 and promotion as Champions of the old Third Division in 2003. he became club captain and after 333 games and 34 goals, the left sided midfielder moved to Oxford United in 2006 where he was almost an ever present. A move back to Rushden in 2007 saw him play a further 94 games and contribute 6 goals.

Mick Harford made a call and Andy’s boyhood dream to play for the Hatters came true in 2009. A nomadic trek followed with Andy unable to establish himself as a regular at Chester, Corby, Droylsden, Woking, Corby again, Stamford and AFC Liverpool.

He played 7 times for the England C team.

His managerial career started with Sheffield Wednesday Ladies then Preston North End Ladies and Leeds Ladies. In 2014 he became manager of Barnton in Division One of the North West Counties League. A brief spell as manager of AFC Rushden and Diamonds came in 2022. In May 2023 Andy became Assistant Manager at Southport and in October of that year he became Head of Football Operations then the club’s Chief Operating Officer.
