Bernard Moore

Bernard John Moore Date of Birth: Dec 18, 1923

Bernard joined his local side Brighton during the early years of the war and by the end of hostilities was banging in goals for fun. He then had to put in some service in the Far East and on his return found a first team place hard to come but, even so, was surprisingly sold to Hastings in 1948 for £200.

As if to prove the Seagulls wrong, Bernard scored an amazing 138 goals in 121 Southern League starts which prompted Luton to pay £4,500 for his services in January 1951. His goals kept the Town in Division Two that season but after injury cut back his appearances in the following campaign he was back to his best in 1952/53.

Brighton were forced to pay £3,000 to take him back to the Goldstone in 1954 and from there he moved to Bedford’s F.A.Cup giant killing team of 1956.

Bernard lived in Putnoe in retirement before passing away in 2014.
