Bill Ford

William Gracey Ford Date of Birth: May 7, 1876

Born in Stirling in 1876, Bill joined Dundee rather than Arbroath where his brother Charlie played. A prolific goalscorer, he attracted English scouts leading to him joining West Brom in 1896.

He did not stay on long at the Hawthorns, falling out with the Board, and left for New Brompton in the Southern League where he was skipper and top scorer in his one season there.

A better offer from Luton persuaded him to come to the Town in April 1898 where his speed and agility meant that he was made to turn out in other positions rather than his favoured centre-forward slot, which he objected to.

The objection turned to dispute leading to Bill leaving after one season to join Gravesend.

Bill passed away in 1948.
