Curtis Davies

Curtis Eugene Davies Date of Birth: Mar 15, 1985

Born in Leytonstone, Curtis started his career as a trainee at Wimbledon but was released at the age of 16. He wrote to every club in and around London asking for a trial, with Colchester taking him on trial, before releasing him. Luton offered him a trial, during which he scored two goals from defence. Luton Town signed him as a trainee in 2001. 18 year old Curtis made his debut in 2003 for Luton Town in the second round of the LDV Vans Trophy against Rushden & Diamonds, and then making his league debut in a 2-2 draw with Stockport County, finishing the season with seven first team appearances.

Curtis became a mainstay in the Hatters backline during the 2004/2005 League 1 Championship winning season, forming a robust partnership alongside Chris Coyne. Curtis also scored his first senior goal in the title-clinching win at Wrexham. That season Curtis won the Luton Town Young Player of the Year award, named the League One Player of the Year as well being selected alongside five teammates in the League One PFA Team of the Year. It was no surprise when Curtis drew the attention of several Premier League clubs after just six matches in the Championship, he scored in his final match for Luton at home to Millwall, before moving to West Bromwich Albion for £3 million in 2005.

After 65 appearances for WBA, Aston Villa signed Curtis for a fee in the region of £8-10 million, where he didn’t settle, being loaned out to Leicester, before being transfer listed and moving to rivals Birmingham, and then to Hull City, where he made 123 appearances, and then to Derby County where he made 164 appearances. At the end of his contract, Curtis moved to Cheltenham Town at the age of 38, and also made his senior international debut after declaring for Sierra Leone. He also appears frequently as a pundit for Sky Sports covering EFL and Premier League matches.
