David Preece

David William Preece Date of Birth: May 28, 1963

David joined Walsall from school and after signing professional forms for the Saddlers in July 1980 as a 17 year old enjoyed four years at Fellows Park which included appearances in the semi-finals of the Milk Cup.

A Luton bid of £150,000 plus forward Steve Elliott was accepted by Walsall and David made his way to Kenilworth Road in December 1984. After making his Luton debut in a 1-0 home win over Aston Villa, scoring the only goal, David went on to make 395 first team appearances for the Hatters including one in the Littlewoods Cup Final win over Arsenal in 1988.

The tiny but hugely talented midfielder also won England B honours during his time with the Hatters.

Following his testimonial game against Manchester United at the end of the 1994-95 season he decided to move to Derby before enjoying spells with Cambridge and Torquay.

David sadly passed away in 2007 and in his memory a stand is named after him at Kenilworth Road.
