Dickie Reader

Dickie Albert Reader Date of Birth: Nov 8, 1890

Born in Derby in 1894, Dickie was a fast and clever winger who started out his Football League career with Derby County before switching to Bristol City in 1914.

The Great War took a large chunk out of his career but he was still regarded as highly experienced and a transfer coup by the time he arrived at Kenilworth Road in the summer of 1922. Unfortunately he was competing for the right wing spot with crowd favourite Sid Hoar so only managed seven appearances during 1922-23.

At the end of the season Dickie joined the first big exodus to play in the USA, turning out for Fall River. He remained in the States after retiring from the game and passed away in Miami in 1974.
