Doug Rowe

Doug Rowe Date of Birth: Jul 9, 1909

Born in Nottingham in 1909, Doug was playing for Sneinton in the Notts Alliance when he was brought to Luton in March 1932.

The strongly built left winger, who was the country’s amateur welterweight wrestling champion, played in the last two games of 1931-32 and started the following campaign with a winning goal against Northampton.

A succession of injuries and inconsistent form held him back but in a hectic end of season schedule he netted six goals in ten games and did enough to earn another contract which he declined and moved to Lincoln.

His spell at Sincil Bank did not prove fruitful, neither did a subsequent move to Southampton but he did enjoy a period in France with Union Sportif Tourcoing before becoming a miner in Ollerton and playing for the works team.

Doug passed away in Grimsby in 1978.
