Fred White

Frederick White Date of Birth: Feb 5, 1880

Born in Dunstable in 1880, Fred started playing football in 1894 with Luton Victoria before enjoying three years with Luton Star.

Drafted into the Town reserve side he eventually made his first team debut in September 1900 and soon became an indispensible member of the team. For the next nine seasons, Fred rarely missed a game from his position of centre-half and along with Fred and Bob Hawkes formed ‘the best half-back line in the Southern League.’

Not a ‘stopper’ centre-half like we know today, more of a central midfielder, Fred was a terrier of a player who chased and tackled and by the time a persistent injury forced his retirement in 1909 he had played over 300 games for the Town.
