George Turner
George Turner Date of Birth: May 5, 1910 Share "George Turner" on FacebookBorn in Mansfield in 1910, George played for the local Town club before being picked up by Notts County in 1930.
Unable to stake a regular place in a promotion winning side he came to Luton in the summer of 1931 as deputy on the left wing for Jackie Slicer. Given Slicer’s injury problems, George was soon in the side and after a string of brilliant performance on the left wing he started attracting bigger clubs, leading to his transfer to Everton in March 1932.
Sadly, George made but two appearances at Goodison in two seasons so moved on to Bradford City where he got a few more opportunities.
Hearing that he might be available, and having signed him before, Luton manager Harold Wightman brought him back to Kenilworth Road in the summer of 1935 but he could not find a way past George Stephenson on the left wing and departed to Northampton along with Billy Thayne after only a few months.
Failing to make a mark at the County Ground, George retired from the professional game in 1937 and joined Newark which enabled him to concentrate on his profession as a motor mechanic.
George passed away in Luton in 1996.
