Godfrey Poku

Godfrey Akwasi Poku Born: 22nd July 1990 From:
  1. Newham
  2. London
  3. England

Born Newham, London, a midfielder, Godfrey turned down a scholarship in Colorado in order to sign for St. Albans in 2009. He did enough to impress Town manager Richard Money who signed him on a free transfer in January 2010. He was loaned back to St. Albans for a month and did not make his Hatters debut until October 2010 coming on as substitute at Barrow. He impressed in that appearance but failed to secure a first team place. He did start in the F.A. Cup tie at home to Welling United in December and in the replay but then reverted back to the bench. Another start in the F.A. Trophy was followed by his Conference debut for the Town on the 18th January 2011, a 5 0 home win over York City. Back to the bench for the next match however and this pattern continued.

In the Summer of 2011 Godfrey was loaned to Southport of the Conference for a six month spell as part of the deal that brought John Paul Kissock to Kenilworth Road. Despite Southport being keen for a loan extension or a permanent move, Godfrey stayed at Luton. He joined Mansfield Town in the Summer of 2012 on a two year deal but was loaned to Southport for the season.

For the remainder of his career, Godfrey played for many non league clubs with 87 appearances in two seasons for Oxford City being the most successful. He ended his career with a season at Wealdstone, then Woking and then a short spell with Sittingbourne.
