Graham French
Graham Edward French Date of Birth: Apr 6, 1945 Share "Graham French" on FacebookA member of the squad that won the Little World Cup at Wembley in 1963 Graham’s suspect temperament put off a host of clubs leading to him turning out for Wellington Town where he was spotted by the Hatters and soon became a favourite at Kenilworth Road.
For a big man, Graham had pace and two footed ability on the wing and set up many goals for a succession of Luton strikers. After helping the Town to two promotions he was sentenced to three years in prison following a shooting incident.
The Town were happy to let him try again on his release but the deprivations of prison life left him a shadow of his former self and he drifted out of the game before re-surfacing under the assumed name of ‘Lafite’ at Southport in 1976.
The poor man’s George Best now lives in Wolverhampton.
