Harry Cockerill

Harry Cockerill Date of Birth: Jan 14, 1894

Born in Ryhope, near Sunderland in 1894, Harry was picked up by Arsenal after playing for Aldershot Command during the Great War.

The tough tackling half-back could not get a game at Highbury so moved to Luton in 1920 on the recommendation of ‘Punch’ McEwen. He played eight games at left-half over the 1920-21 season but left to join Mid-Rhondda at the campaign’s end.

After a spell at Bristol City, Harry enjoyed a good run at Reading where he was virtually ever present for two seasons.

Harry finished his playing career at Merthyr and passed away in 1960.
