Hugh Galbraith
Hugh Galbraith Date of Birth: Dec 2, 1867 Share "Hugh Galbraith" on FacebookBorn in Waterford in 1868 but moving to Scotland at a young age, Hugh became one of the Town’s early heroes and was regarded as ‘the best centre-forward in the south’ during his time at the club.
Hugh had moved south to play football relatively early in his life and turned out for Bootle, Middlesbrough Ironopolis and Burnley before coming to Luton in 1892 when the club was just playing friendlies and Cup matches.
Brave, aggressive, strong in the tackle and impossible to push off the ball because of his running style with elbows turned out, he was also a deadly shot netting a goal every other game in his years with the club.
He missed the best part of season 1897-98 because of rheumatism which would eventually finish his playing career but by that time had earned a ‘benefit’ which saw him receive over £78.
After retiring from the game, Hugh worked in the hat trade and passed away in Luton in 1930.
