Ian Buxton

Ian Ray Buxton Date of Birth: Apr 17, 1938

Ian was one of the last sportsmen to combine professional football with top level cricket which he managed throughout his long career.

Starting with his local side Derby in 1959, Ian was never a prolific scorer but brought others into the game. It was for this reason that Luton manager Allan Brown paid out £11,000 to bring the 29 year old to Kenilworth Road in September 1967 where his experience proved the final piece in the jigsaw as the Hatters walked away with the Division Four championship at the seasons end.

After hanging his football boots up Ian continued with County Cricket for Derbyshire, who he had also joined in 1959, and eventually combined being chairman of the committee and running a sports shop in Chesterfield. Ian sadly passed away in 2010.
