Jack Durrant

Arthur Durrant Date of Birth: Feb 13, 1878

Born in Luton in 1880, Jack was a fast and skilful winger for Luton Stanley who joined the Town in 1897 making his League debut as a 17 year old.

Soon becoming a crowd favourite he was one of the few players who bridged the gap between the Town’s stay in the Football League and rejoining the Southern League and remained at Luton until 1904 when his old playing mentor Jimmy Blessington, by then player manager at Leicester Fosse, took him to Filbert Street.

After five successful years at Leicester and four at Leyton, where he encouraged the young Charles Buchan, he returned to Luton to give his experience to a Town side that was pushing for promotion from Division Two of the Southern League.

After hanging up his boots, Jack concentrated on his confectionary business in Luton and later owned a hat manufacturers. He passed away in Luton in 1927.
