Jack Hodge

John Hodge

Born in Plymouth, Jack was on the books of Argyle without getting a first team chance before a transfer to Bristol City in 1934 proved more fruitful as he became a regular in the side.

Looking to fill the problem right-wing position, the Town swooped for his transfer in March 1936 but he took time to settle and it was not until the following campaign that he enjoyed a good run in the side,

Playing 14 of the first 15 games at the start of the promotion winning season of 1936-37 on the right wing and creating chances for Joe Payne he seemed destined to make the position his own but an injury received in the home game with Bristol Rovers cut short his Luton career.

By the time he was fit again, Ted Hancock had taken over on the right wing leaving Jack to leave for Colchester at the end of the season.

On the outbreak of War, Jack returned to Plymouth and worked at Devonport dockyard.
