Jack Russell

Jack Cecil Russell Date of Birth: Jun 19, 1904

Born in Northfield, Birmingham in 1904, Jack started out at Bourneville and Bromsgrove Rovers before signing on for Birmingham in 1923.

In four years at St Andrews, Jack made only 27 starts so moved on to Bristol Rovers and then Bournemouth where his career took off. Described as a ‘flying left winger’ he could also shoot as proved by him finishing top scorer two years running at Dean Court.

It was regarded as a major coup when he came to Luton in the summer of 1934 but after eight indifferent starts he lost his place to George Stephenson and four months after signing was off to Norwich where he re-found his form.

After retiring from the first class game, Jack had a spell as player manager of Shirley Town before passing away in Bromsgrove in 1995.
