James Wright

Born in Luton in 1864, James started his playing career with Luton Rangers before moving to Luton Wanderers until that club disbanded and then throwing in his lot with the Town in 1887.

Initially alternating between the first team and reserves he eventually became a mainstay in the Town’s half back line renowned for his clever and scientific play and also sometimes being too brave for his own good which resulted in some quite bad ‘accidents’.

James resigned from playing in January 1893 but did spend some time as a committee member. A hat manufacturer by trade he passed away in the town in 1929.
