Jason Walker
Jason Walker Date of Birth: Feb 21, 1984 Share "Jason Walker" on FacebookBorn in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. Spotted by Dundee, Jason spent his apprenticeship there until 2004 when he signed for Greenock Morton. He scored 17 goals in 92 appearances for the Scottish second division club. He left in 2007 and after a brief spell at Morecambe, signed for his home town club Barrow. It was at Barrow that he proved himself as a striker netting 64 times in 175 games. His stand out goal came in the 2010 F.A. Trophy Final at Wembley when his 25 yard “wonder strike” won the game for the men from Cumbria.
Signed initially on loan in November 2010, Jason scored on his debut in the 5 1 win over Histon in November 2010. Jason played a total of 29 games scoring 6 times for the Hatters. His last game was the play off final defeat to AFC Wimbledon at the Etihad Stadium on the 21st May 2011. Jason hit the inside of the post with a header in the 89th minute which bounced straight back to the keeper. A huge moment followed In the penalty shoot out when he attempted a “Panenka” which the keeper saved. It set up one of the lowest points in our history as Danny Kedwell blasted home the winning penalty to send AFC into the Football League.
A move back up north suited so when York City made a £60,000 bid was accepted. He played 87 games scoring 27 goals in his time with York including a play off win at Wembley against the Hatters. York’s offside winning goal was hard to bear but salt was rubbed into the wound when Jason was photographed on York’s open top bus parade with an “RIP Luton” sign. Het therefore got some stick when he returned with Forest Green Rovers in 2014.
Brief spells were spent in Sweden, Southport, Barrow again and finally two seasons at Chorley where 17 goals in 60 appearances typified his strike rate. Released by Chorley in 2018, he went to Workington in the Northern Premier League.
