Jimmy Walker

James Richard Walker Date of Birth: Jan 23, 1896

Born in Port Glasgow in 1902, the Town pulled out all the stops to sign him from Kilbarcham Athletic in April 1921 despite several clubs clamouring for his signature.

Said to resemble the recently retired Bob Hawkes because he was fast, could control the ball, pass and cross and also an excellent reader of a game he was given his chance in the first team almost immediately at centre-half!

For his first three years at the club he played mainly in that position but for his final two reverted to half-back. A fine servant to the club who would have played many more games but for a string of injury problems brought about because he was not particularly robust.

An expert in catching players in an offside-trap before the rules were changed in 1925, Jimmy eventually left Kenilworth Road in 1926 and returned to Scotland.
