Joe Arnison

Joseph William Arnison Date of Birth: Jun 27, 1924

South African born Billy first came to prominence with Glasgow Rangers from whom the Hatters paid £8,000 for his services in 1948. Scoring a hat-trick in the 3-0 home win over Cardiff in only his fourth game Billy soon became a crowd favourite finishing as top scorer in 1948/49 despite missing a large part of the season with a right knee injury.

Because of this injury Billy was never able to repeat his scoring feats and after three major operations decided to call it a day at the age of 27.

After a well deserved testimonial, Billy returned to South Africa where he practised as a physiotherapist until passing away in 1996.
