John Bennett

Born in Wavertree, Liverpool in 1879, Jack had an early taste of League football with Lincoln City but with only four appearances under his belt was released for disciplinary reasons.

After a spell at Northampton he joined the Town in the summer of 1903 and became virtually ever-present in the 1903-04 season as a stylish and clever right back with accomplished passing skills. So good was he that League side Leicester Fosse came calling and after starring there a further move, this time to top flight Blackburn, came his way.

Unfortunately, this proved a step too far as he could not displace regular right-back, England international Bob Crompton.
