Jonathan Smith Date of Birth: Oct 17, 1986

Born Preston, Lancashire, Jonathan was an all action, hard running midfielder. He started at Morecambe but failed to make the first team and went out on loan a couple of times. A free transfer to Forest Green Rovers in 2007 launched his career and the next three seasons saw him play 134 times scoring 18 goals. A free transfer again at the end of his contract saw him go to Conference rivals York City where he again impressed. However, another he moved on to Swindon then back to York City.

Jonathan came on loan to the Town in November 2012, which was extended and then made permanent with a £50,000 fee. He made his debut in a 1 0 defeat at Hereford on first arriving. In his 5 seasons he made 34, 26, 40, 41 and 35 appearances contributing a total of 11 goals. The Conference championship winning season saw only 26 games due to a broken leg sustained at Barnet on Boxing Day 2013. His comeback came on the last day of the season as an 88th minute substitute at Hyde.

Jonathan could not hold down a permanent place in the 2016/17 team and his contract was not renewed at the end of the season. League Two Stevenage signed him and he played regularly in that first season. A move to Chesterfield and then to F.C. United of Manchester in 2021.
