Juergen Sommer

Juergen Peterson Sommer Date of Birth: Feb 27, 1969

Son of a former SV Hamburg player, giant goalkeeper Juergen was brought up in the USA before approaching Luton Town for a trial in 1991 which was successful.

After biding his time behind Alec Chamberlain and Andy Petterson, and moving out on loan to Brighton and Torquay, Juergen finally made his Luton debut on the opening day of the 1993/94 campaign. He was then virtually ever present over the next two seasons as well as making his USA international debut, against England, along the way.

With Kelvin Davis waiting in the wings the Hatters felt able to accept a £600,000 bid from Premier League QPR in 1995 and while at Loftus Road he was able to add to his international caps given his higher profile.

After returning to the States in 1998, Juergen played for Columbus Crew and New England Revolution before becoming goalkeeping coach for the national team.
