Robert Thompson

Robert Atkinson Thompson Date of Birth: Sep 5, 1890

Born at Coundon Grange, near Bishop Auckland in 1890, Bob had enjoyed a good career at the likes of Preston, Glossop and Leeds United as a centre-forward and occasional winger before coming to Luton from Ashington in the summer of 1922.

Signed as a replacement for the departed Ernie Simms the, by now, veteran had a reasonable start to 1922-23, netting seven goals in 16 starts before a series of niggling injuries struck. By the time he was fully fit, Sid Reid had taken over striking duties so he left at the seasons end and played for a further six clubs, with varying success, before finishing his career at York City.
