Ron Cope
Ron Cope Date of Birth: Oct 5, 1934 Share "Ron Cope" on FacebookEngland schoolboy international Ron enjoyed eleven years at Manchester United and was centre-half for the Old Trafford side in the 1958 F.A.Cup final and was a regular in the team the following season when the Reds finished runners-up to Wolves in Division One.
After losing his place to Bill Foulkes, it did not take Ron long to accept a £10,000 transfer to Luton in August 1961 but he did not have the happiest of times at Kenilworth Road making only 28 appearances in two seasons.
A talented, footballing centre-half, Ron became national news as a prize example of the wrongs of the retain and transfer system but eventually was able to secure a move to Northwich Victoria where he stayed 14 years in all capacities.
On retirement, Ron moved back to his native Crewe where he passed away in 2016.
