Sammy Igoe

Tiny midfielder Sammy made up for his lack of stature with speed and skill and became a regular for Portsmouth, the club he joined from school.

A £200,000 cheque took him to Reading in 2000 where he became a crowd favourite for his whole hearted attitude. Towards the end of the 2002/03 campaign he found himself out of the side and accepted a loan move to Joe Kinnear’s Luton, making a superb debut in a home draw with Tranmere and then following it up with an incisive display at Cheltenham.

Sadly, Sammy then received an injury in training which cut short his stay.

He joined Swindon that summer and subsequently turned out for Bristol Rovers and Bournemouth before eventually winding down his career at Bognor Regis.
