Sid Neal Date of Birth: May 17, 1899 Share "Sid Neal" on FacebookSidney (Sid) NEAL.
Born in Mosborough, Sheffield in 1899, Sid had enjoyed a short spell with Rotherham County in the Football League but it was from Dinnington Colliery that he signed for the Town in October 1924.
A centre or wing-half he only played twice in his first season but finally got his chance when the veteran Bill Jennings departed and was ever present from Christmas 1925 until the end of that season forming a good relationship with Andy Rennie (who was a defender in his early days).
Refusing a new contract on maximum wage he reckoned he could earn more at Frickley Colliery! Sid passed away in 1985.
